American Exceptionalism to American Incompetence

Editor's note: The events in East Palestine, Ohio are tragic and being made worse by what we can only described as incompetence. Why weren't holes drilled in the tank cars as a better option and the vinyl chloride drained out into tank trucks instead of torching the vinyl chloride (if the tank cars were even carrying vinyl chloride)? Who is responsible for making the decision to burn off the vinyl chloride? Why did Norfolk Southern make the decision to ignite the vinyl chloride and why didn't the EPA prevent this from happening until there was a better option? An incompetent bureaucrat will always say, "We're going to keep the public updated, we have people on the ground now and so we want to be transparent...." There is no such thing as "transparency" in multi-billion dollar (OSHA is set to receive around $632.3 million for FY 2023; the recent EPA bill includes $73.60 billion in budgetary resources) funded bureaucracies. Check the guy out in the white coat and bow tie. Come on, really?
