A particularly disturbing example is the use of generative AI to create and disseminate realistic child sexual abuse material (CSAM), a problem that is not only growing but is also making it more difficult for law enforcement to track and prosecute perpetrators. Additionally, AI is a powerful tool for large-scale fraud, with a notable case involving North Korean IT workers using AI to automate fraudulent employment schemes.
It seems everyone is on social media platforms side hustling AI to get rich off AI platforms as "AI influencers." People are falling for the scams because it's "AI." It's being hustled as the "digital gold rush." The pursuit of profit and competitive advantage in the AI industry poses significant dangers. The intense "race to the bottom" is incentivizing companies to prioritize rapid development over safety and ethical considerations. This is leading to the creation of biased, opaque, and potentially harmful systems. The intense competition can also lead to the consolidation of power and wealth in the hands of a few major corporations, who may use their influence to stifle innovation, manipulate markets, and resist meaningful regulation. Unchecked, this dynamic could result in increased social inequality, mass job displacement, and the deployment of AI that serves corporate interests at the expense of public well-being and safety. What we foresee happening is that people are piling into AI to get rich like they did with cryptocurrencies then when the systems are secured and monopolized the door will be slammed shut with most people priced out.
