What can possibly justify a new $1 billion 43 acre small private village as a US embassy compound in Lebanon?

Editor's note: Honestly, what is the purpose of a massive $1 billion US embassy (New Embassy Beirut Compound) being built outside of Beirut, Lebanon sitting on 43 acres of land? Why the opulence of a private village being constructed on the US taxpayer tab when very few Americans if any even know it is being built let alone will be able to set foot inside this small private village to see what their tax money is buying? It will be staffed by some 800 employees including US government employees who are going to live far better than the Lebanese locals who are experiencing an 80 percent poverty level in an economy that is broke and "banks have gone zombie." What justifies this opulence? At what cost? Why wasn't a local architectural firm in the region hired instead? Ostensibly, US government employees on huge salaries and perks on a "vacation to Lebanon" will live in the small opulent village right in the middle of the region. Once built, the place is going to be crawling with US military and CIA spooks as well as the Israeli Mossad doing God knows what and everyone knows it.
