Editor's note: We have seen it over and over again when people go up against tyrants, the courts and lawyers will attempt asset stripping you.
Dr Sam Bailey has spent six years locked in a knock down take no prisoners fight with the
Medical Council of New Zealand, a campaign her supporters describe as corrupt, vindictive, and a textbook case of lawfare. The Council labelled her a "serious risk of harm to the public," yet the appeal insists no evidence ever backed that charge, which raises uncomfortable questions about how readily New Zealand's (British commonwealth) regulatory and legal machinery can brand a practitioner "dangerous" without proof. She was then hit with a fine of roughly NZ$250,000 (roughly US$145,000), and the appeal claims she was pushed into bankruptcy through a deceit by the state, which did not even tell her it was happening. If that account is accurate, it points to a system that is heavy-handed, opaque, and more interested in crushing a dissenting voice than in basic fairness and due process. The lawyers and officials who pursued her are are wielding the law as a weapon rather than a shield, leaving a doctor to defend herself against institutions with far deeper resources. Now, hoping to prevent the seizure of her assets, Bailey has turned to a crowdfunding page titled "
Can You Help Dr Sam?" and says reaching the target would let her continue the work her followers say has helped so many since 2020.

For six years, Dr Sam Bailey squared up to the Medical Council of New Zealand during a prolonged campaign of corruption, lawfare, and sheer vindictiveness. She was characterised as presenting a "serious risk of harm to the public", despite no evidence of such a charge. Fined to the value of NZ$250,000, Sam was entered into bankruptcy via a deceit by a state which did not even inform her.
After much soul-searching, and to avoid state seizure of her assets, Sam has set up a funding page which asks, '
Can You Help Dr Sam?'. Meeting the target will also allow her to continue the work which has been so valuable to so many since 2020. To get in touch with the New Zealand Medical Council in relation to Sam's treatment, please use the relevant address:

Ming-Chun Wu, a lay member with extensive governance experience. Day-to-day operations are run by Chief Executive Joan Simeon. The Chair and Deputy Chair are elected from among Council members each year, so the roles can change.
