Canada's motto: A mari usque ad mare (Latin for "From sea to sea")

Editor's note: Michel Chossudovsky of Global Research argues that the ongoing US-Canada tariff talks are meant to destabilize Canada's economy and pressure Ottawa toward Trump's proposal to annex it. It compares this to "War Plan Red," a US military contingency plan against Canada from the interwar years. That plan involved bombing Montreal, Quebec City, Halifax and Vancouver, and General Douglas MacArthur was in charge of it. In March 1935, MacArthur proposed making Vancouver a priority bombing target on par with Halifax and Montreal. The author's point is that annexation talk is not a joke and that the US has a history of drawing up plans to subdue Canada. A routine contingency exercise nonetheless, always for contingency purposes. Mark Carney is now staring at a separatist government in Québec, an Alberta breakaway vote in two weeks. Companies are refusing his emergency cash and moving across the border. Canada is coming apart on Carney's watch and Ottawa's answer is still "Listen to my speech." Canada's motto might have to be changed soon. Remember that Canada was a "friendly player" in Vigilant Guardian, with its "Canada East" sector coordinating exercise and real tracks with NORAD's Northeast Air Defense Sector during the flying events of September 11, 2001.
