Moral of the Story: If You Are In a War Zone Never Use WhatsApp

Editor's note: The 63 Russian soldiers killed in their quarters in the town of Makiivka in the Russian-controlled part of the Ukraine's Donetsk region by a Ukrainian missile strike using the US-manufactured HIMARS rocket system made the mistake of thinking WhatsApp messages were encrypted. WhatsApp advertises with "end-to-end encryption, your personal messages and calls are secured. Only you and the person you're talking to can read or listen to them, and nobody in between, not even WhatsApp." That is bullsh*t. The CIA didn't put their capability into the WhatsApp advertising. A Russian hacker (or group) got inside Ukrainian computer networks and revealed the CIA had monitored the smart phones (through Musk's Starlink satellites?) new Russian soldiers to the front were using along with the app WhatsApp.

These new Russian soldiers are less likely to be intel sensitive and compromised themselves. Another reason is probably because of the intensity of the conflict they were not acclimated to. After the CIA learned of their location that intel was passed off to a HIMARS rocket system team likely manned with NATO and US personnel with a few Ukrainians standing around with their hands in the pockets for legitimacy and several minutes later, HIMARS rockets were launched. Legitimate target yes, but that is an open act of war. Facebook owns WhatsApp. Recommendation: Uninstall WhatsApp. Don't fool yourselves. If you think you have encryption and privacy you are sorely mistaken.

The Russian hacker (it was more probably a hacker group) who goes by the moniker Joker DNR (Joker DPR on Ukraine) sent a message to the Russian forces calling them mutherf*ckers for using WhatsApp. Joker DNR apparently hacked into Ukrainian computer systems to discover the presence of the CIA which is what he meant by "I'm tired of reading your correspondence in Ukrainian reports." If this applies to Ukraine that means this applies everywhere. If you are sending shit ("significant content") you want protected using WhatsApp you've been compromised. This is also obviously a warning to journalists, diplomats, government and military officials and business people. Now that Joker DNR revealed this intelligence on WhatsApp, the Ukrainians will probably now close all the intelligence gaps. A screen shot of the message taken off of Telegram is below:
