• Donald Trump Jr. deployed sarcasm, tweeting that Thunberg is "so impressive" as "a world renowned infectious disease specialist and epidemiologist AND a leading scientific voice when it comes to global climate policy."

• Bestselling author Roxane Gay clapped back at the criticism, writing that "unqualified" men regularly get airtime but Thunberg is seen as "a bridge too far," while activist writer Charlotte Clymer suggested sexism was at play.

• "I'm confused," Eurasia Group president and political scientist Ian Bremmer tweeted in response to the news.

• Project Lincoln advisor and author Tom Nichols opined that if Thunberg is needed to attract people "who otherwise wouldn't be interested during a global pandemic, then I think the problem is already evident."
• Journalists Yashar Ali and Jessica Huseman also questioned CNN's choice, with Ali asking "what place" Thunberg has at the town hall, while Huseman used a single question mark to communicate her stance.
• CNN did not respond to a request for comment by Forbes.
