Trump Inflames Violence In Iran With Call For Protestors To 'Take Over' Government Institutions

United States President Donald Trump on January 13 told protesters in Iran that "help is on its way" and urged them to keep protesting, as violence in the Islamic Republic reaches a new peak with reports of thousands of casualties.

"Iranian Patriots, KEEP PROTESTING – TAKE OVER YOUR INSTITUTIONS!!! Save the names of the killers and abusers. They will pay a big price," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, in what amounts to a call on the protesters to oust the government.

Trump also said that he has "cancelled all meetings with Iranian Officials until the senseless killing of protesters STOPS."

"HELP IS ON ITS WAY," he added.

Similar remarks by Trump have directly caused serious escalation of violence in Iran since the protests there first broke out late in December, with him vowing more than once to punish the Iranian government if protesters are killed by security forces.

In its latest report, the U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency said that at least 1,850 people, both civilians and security personnel, have been killed and at least 16,784 have been arrested so far. However, an Iranian official told Reuters earlier in the day that around 2,000 people were killed, blaming "terrorists" for the deaths of civilians and security personnel.

An even higher estimate was attributed to the Israeli Mossad agency, which reportedly informed the U.S. that 5,000 people have been killed in the protests across Iran, according to an American official quoted by Israel’s Channel 12 news.

Meanwhile, Israel's Channel 13 reported that the Israeli Cabinet has been briefed by the intelligence that approximately 500 Iranian security personnel have been killed in the protests.

The exact toll remains unknown, but it is very clear from all sources, including Israeli intelligence, that both protestors and security personnel are being killed.

Iranian authorities more than once reported attacks by gunmen who attacked both sides, and said that some of those arrested were linked to the Mossad.
