A big part of Russia distancing itself from the west and Europe includes the total rejection of Monsanto, US big Ag and GM modified foods. This also includes the preposterous fallacy of capitalist efficiency. Russia likely does not want GM grown foods in Ukraine let alone Monsanto contaminating Ukrainian and Russian agricultural lands. The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are not going to simply walk away from their $17 billion loan to Ukraine to get GM crops and GMOs into Ukraine without a return on their investment. It looks as though Ukraine is a colony for Monsanto, Cargill, the EU and Bayer and they have the Azov Battalion as their hired guns.

Long considered Europe's "bread basket," Ukraine's agricultural potential is huge. It's rich dark soil is highly valued. Ideal for growing grain.
Farmland producing it matches Texas in size. Amounts to about one-third of Europe's arable land.
Ukraine exports include wheat, corn, barley, vegetables, sugar beets, sunflower seeds, meat and milk.
About one-fourth of Ukrainian workers are in agriculture or forestry related areas. Monsanto and other agribusiness giants intend exploiting Ukraine's agricultural potential.
In 2014, the Oakland Institute published a report titled "Walking on the West Side: The World Bank and the IMF in the Ukraine Conflict," saying:
IMF loan stipulations require permitting GMO production. Biowarfare is transforming millions pristine acres into poisoned wasteland. Ecogenocide for profit. Monsanto's dirty hands are hugely involved.
In May 2014, The New York Times explained what was coming. Saying Ukraine's agricultural success is crucial for its economy and ability to "reduc(e) its dependence on Russia."
"Western interests are pressing for change…As part of (an IMF loan agreement), the country's government must push through business reforms that" let agribusiness and other corporate sectors operate freely.
"Big multinationals" want to exploit Ukraine's potential. Especially Europe's richest farmland. Fascist run Ukraine is now ground zero for mass proliferation of harmful-to-health GMO crops in Europe.
On January 13, the European Parliament passed legislation granting member states the right to permit or prohibit GMO crops.
Nine EU countries currently ban them. Monsanto's MON810 maize is the only GMO crop some European countries permit.
New legislation potentially opens things to greater GMO European production. According to UK-based Soil Association policy director Peter Melchett:
"The rights of farmers who do not wish to grow GMO crops, particularly in England are under threat by this proposal."
"Indeed, the entire organic sector, growing rapidly in Europe and which may double by 2020, is in danger – as are the rights of anyone who wants to buy GMO free foods."
Greens Party food safety spokesman Bart Staes said the new law "risks finally opening the door for genetically modified organisms to be grown across Europe."
"Despite a majority of EU member states and citizens being consistently opposed to GMOs, the real purpose of this new scheme is to make it easier to wave through EU authorizations of GMO crops."
"Countries opposed to GMOs are given the carrot of being able to opt-out of these authorizations but the scheme approved today fails to give them a legally-watertight basis for doing so. This is a false solution."
Agribusiness giants like Monsanto may now apply more pressure than ever on EU countries to permit GMO production.

The World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) is helping biotech run the latest war in Ukraine. Make no mistake that what is happening in the Ukraine now is deeply tied to the interests of Monsanto, Dow, Bayer, and other big players in the poison food game.
Monsanto has an office in Ukraine. While this does not shout 'culpability' from every corner, it is no different than the US military's habit to place bases in places that they want to gain political control. The opening of this office coincided with land grabs with loans from the IMF and World Bank to one of the world’s most hated corporations – all in support of their biotech takeover.
Previously, there was a ban on private sector land ownership in the country – but it was lifted 'just in time' for Monsanto to have its way with the Ukraine.
In fact, a bit of political maneuvering by the IMF gave the Ukraine a $17 billion loan – but only if they would open up to biotech farming and the selling of Monsanto's poison crops and chemicals – destroying a farmland that is one of the most pristine in all of Europe. Farm equipment dealer, Deere, along with seed producers Dupont and Monsanto, will have a heyday.
In the guise of 'aid,' a claim has been made on Ukraine's vast agricultural riches. It is the world's third largest exporter of corn and fifth largest exporter of wheat. Ukraine has deep, rich, black soil that can grow almost anything, and its ability to produce high volumes of GM grain is what made biotech come rushing to take it over.

The nation WAS Europe's breadbasket – and now in an act of bio-warfare, it will become the wasteland that many US farmlands have become due to copious amounts of herbicide spraying, the depletion of soil, and the overall disruption of a perfect ecosystem.

In January 2015 Putin signed the Russian Federation Code of Administrative Offences into law, including a new article establishing liability for the violation of mandatory requirements for the labeling of food products that contain GMOs.
The bill which was submitted by the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Protection and Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor) imposes fines for vague or unclear labeling on food products containing genetically modified ingredients.
In June, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich has announced that Russia will not use genetically modified organisms (GMOs) to increase productivity in agriculture, while he was speaking on Friday at a session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
"Russia has chosen a different path. We will not use these technologies", he said.
As a result of this decision Russian products will be "one of the cleanest in the world" in terms of technology use, Dvorkovich continued. A bill for a full ban on the cultivation of GM crops is currently going through the State Duma.
Russian Minister of Agriculture Nikolai Fyodorov also believes that Russia must remain a GMO-free country. At a meeting of deputies representing rural areas organized by United Russia, he said that the government will not "poison their citizens."

Russian President Vladimir Putin has told the Russian Parliament that Russia should become the world's largest supplier of organic foods, in a message released to the media on Thursday.
