Scrolling social media now feels like...

Editor's most: ...that Monty Python The Witch sketch: no matter what you order, it comes with AI slop. Ask people honestly and most will admit they're sick of it. It's not surprising, because so many people picked up AI with one goal, getting rich, and when that's the whole point, nobody stops to check the output. Even the tools admit this weakness. In one conversation circulating online, an AI invented the details of a medical study and only got it right after being pressed for sources. Fluent and confident doesn't mean true, and a flood of unchecked content posted for a quick profit is what you would expect. Think of AI as the witch in Monty Python's skit The Witch. Most people's understanding of AI is a lot like the villagers in Monty Python's witch trial. They've been handed a woman with a fake nose and a pointy hat and told she's magic. Some want to worship her, some want to burn her, and nearly all of them back their verdict with logic that wouldn't survive a weigh-in against a duck. Almost nobody stops to ask what she actually is, or what she can really do. They just want to know how to cash in on her, which is why the social media feeds are filling with AI slop. But it's not surprising, because so many people picked up AI with one goal in mind: getting rich. When that's the whole point, you end up with whatever is cheapest to make and easiest to cash in on.
