Editor's note: New York is losing billions in tax revenue as its share of U.S. millionaires dropped sharply from 12.7 percent in 2010 to 8.7 percent in 2022, the largest decline of any state. According to a Citizens Budget Commission report cited in Jonathan Turley's New York Post column, the exodus of wealthy residents has cost the state about $10.7 billion. High taxes, aggressive policies targeting the rich, and promises of expansive social programs are driving many to relocate to lower-tax states like Florida and Texas, where remote work reduces the need to stay in the high-cost Big Apple. Turley warns that rather than reforming to retain residents, some Democrats are pushing national wealth taxes to limit such mobility.
