The EU's attempts to keep the war going
While the US and Russia strive for peace in Ukraine, the EU is doing everything it can to continue the war. This is evident in a review of the last political week in the EU and Germany.

Last week, direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine took place for the first time in three years. But instead of supporting the peace course demanded by the US administration, the EU is sabotaging it wherever it can. This is demonstrated by the Russian Germany correspondent's report on the political week in the EU and Germany, which I have translated, as I do every week.
Start of translation:
In Europe, people complain about Kyiv's appetite, but continue to talk about war
A dangerous provocation in the Baltics. Why is everyone in Europe talking about war with Russia, and what are they using to fuel their belligerence?
The Estonian Navy, with support from the Polish Air Force, was dispatched to intercept the merchant ship Jaguar, which was sailing through the neutral waters of the Gulf of Finland toward the Russian port of Primorsk. A patrol boat simulated ramming maneuvers, and a helicopter signaled the launch of a boarding party.
A radio request was made for the ship to change course into Estonian territorial waters. The international crew did not respond. It all ended with the appearance of a Russian Su-35 in the sky – and the Estonian fleet and Polish aircraft returned home.
Tallinn is yelling about a violation of airspace, the chairman of the EU Military Committee is pointing to a lack of resources to intercept Russian tankers, and Estonian Kaja Kallas seems surprised that the Russians sent a plane to chase away the pirates: "The shadow fleet is very closely linked to the Russian military because the planes were actually protecting the fleet. So the situation is more serious," she said.
The situation is indeed more serious, and the head of Euro diplomacy obviously doesn't care how much more serious the situation could be.
EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated: "We are working on a new sanctions package. This package will, for example, include sanctions against Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 and work to add more ships from the Russian shadow fleet to the list."
The shadow fleet is an old story, but sanctions against blown-up gas pipelines are something new, and they don't even hide the fact that they are intended to discourage American investors from being interested in these pipelines.
In fact, the 17th sanctions package was initially viewed in Brussels as something valuable and European in its own right. But the concept had to be changed: It is now linked to the sanctions proposals that a group of American senators led by Lindsey Graham has presented to Donald Trump. But the US president is not yet ready to play along with a game that only aims to drag his administration into what he calls "Biden's War."
The introduction of new European sanctions without the White House's approval would be seen as an attempt to sabotage a lucrative agreement with Russia. Therefore, at the summit of the European Political Community in Albania on Friday, every possible device was used to convince Trump of the futility of dialogue with Moscow—which was precisely the purpose of the event.
"No ceasefire, no meeting at decision-making level,” says French President Macron.
"Russia's position is clearly unacceptable, and not for the first time," reiterated British Prime Minister Starmer.
They remain five: Zelensky, the Polish Prime Minister, and three TikTokers spoke with Trump. Judging by their sour expressions, they weren't exactly thrilled with what they heard from the other side. Combining this with the ultimatum they issued to Russia last week—sanctions if there is no ceasefire by May 12—has proven to be a mistake for them: Whatever happens next, the complete secondary status of the EU and Great Britain will become very clear. ( Translator's note: Macron, Merz, and Starmer are dubbed the "three from TikTok" in Russia after the strange video of the three on the train to Kyiv went viral on TikTok.)
