A reminder that the initial Bank for International Settlements did not originally have its current function as a central bank for central banks. Its original function was to coordinate war reparations from the Treaty of Versailles, i.e. to fuck over Germany. The central bank of central banks role developed later on: the institution was repurposed; kind of like the League of Nations fell apart and was repurposed into the United Nations in 1947.
