Marine Links Allen & Overy Snuff film Escrow to Bain & Company's Maddie McCann

United States Marine Field McConnell has linked Allen & Overy’s snuff-film escrow service – apparently created during WWII by the Duke of Windsor and his fellow alumni of the Bullingdon Club for Operation Paperclip – to Bain & Company’s alleged use of VideoGuard encryption and the Child Focus 116 000 toll-free number to conceal images shared online by the abductors of Madeleine McCann.

Feeling laconic, McConnell invites rebuttal in the context of links and MSM texts below.

“INTERNATIONAL MISSING CHILDREN’S DAY 2011 Celebrating 10 years of European action for missing children Brussels, 25 and 26 May 2011 International Missing Children’s Day is commemorated annually and increasingly in Europe and beyond on 25 May to remember all the children who have gone missing and express solidarity with their families. Missing Children Day is particularly significant this year as 25 May 2011 coincides with the deadline for implementation of the revised Universal Service Directive, which imposes new obligations on the Member States regarding the 116 000 … In 2009 – 2010, data on the caseload of 116 000 hotlines were collected in the framework of the operational research project conducted for Missing Children Europe by Bain & Company. The nine hotlines interviewed reported having dealt with 3619 cases of missing children in 2009. Of particular relevance is the proportion of the different kinds of cases dealt with, which appears to be consistent with other data collection efforts coordinated by Missing Children Europe. Overall, it is clear that for most organisations, runaways constitute the biggest group, followed by parental abductions and unaccompanied migrant minors. The 116 000 hotline for missing children is known to be operational in 15 EU Member States: Belgium: Child Focus, Member of MCE Denmark: Thora Center, Member of MCE Estonia: Medical Consultation Center LLC France: Fondation pour l’Enfance Member of MCE Greece: The Smile of the Child, Member of MCE [Commission Decision 2007/116/EC of 15 February 2007 on reserving the national numbering range beginning with 116 for harmonised numbers for harmonised services of social value.] .. Developments are also ongoing in Luxembourg and Slovenia.”

“Even if it’s not the first event of its type, however, it’s still shocking when a lawyer of Ed De Sear’s stature gets hit with lurid criminal charges. We’ve reprinted his Allen & Overy bio below (since it has already been removed from the website of the firm, which declined comment on the charges, other than to say an internal review has been launched). As you can see from his A&O bio, De Sear was recognized as a leading lawyer in the areas of securitization and structured finance, by such authorities as Chambers and Best Lawyers in America. UPDATE (12:00 PM): A&O just issued a more detailed statement to us here at Above the Law: Everyone has been shocked and appalled by the news that a lawyer in our New York office, Edward De Sear, has been criminally charged by federal prosecutors in Newark, New Jersey, after being arrested at his home. He has resigned from the firm. These charges involve very serious allegations of using and distributing child pornography. This is now subject to a federal investigation so we cannot make any further comment. De Sear joined A&O fairly recently, in 2010. As you can see from his detailed LinkedIn profile, before that he was a partner at a number of other top law firms, including Bingham McCutchen, McKee Nelson (before it was absorbed by Bingham), Orrick (for over a decade), and Milbank Tweed. He started his legal career at a firm that later became part of Brown & Wood (now Sidley Austin). De Sear received his undergraduate degree from Columbia and his J.D. from UVA Law (after transferring in from the University of Florida).”
