“London Olympics are vulnerable to 'smart' bomb attack because of security services 'infighting', warns former Tory minister By Michael Lea Last updated at 7:02 PM on 10th December 2008 The London 2012 site is vulnerable to a sophisticated terror attack because of in-fighting in the security services, a key Olympics adviser warned today. 'In an age of determined and technologically sophisticated incremental terrorism, the Met and security services must overcome everything from highly unfortunate public rows over employment discrimination affecting key officers involved to more private inter-agency rivalries,' he told The Spectator magazine. 'Forget about policing crowds in 2012, pipework and brickwork is being laid now which is vulnerable to smart devices that can lurk latent until 2012. 'At least one person from that world tells me that there is no real integrated concept of operations yet. Someone or somebody must provide that focus and work with a semi-detached Home Secretary.' The comments come a week after Denis Oswald, the chairman of the IOC's co-ordination committee for London, said that he expected 2012 to be the biggest spend on security in Olympic history. The Olympic Security Directorate said today that security measures had already been 'factored into construction and design phases'. 'Also we have a policing team dedicated to the Olympic Park who support on site private security,' it said in a statement. A spokesman for the Olympic Delivery Authority, which runs the principal site in Stratford, East London, added: 'We have worked closely with our partners, including the Met Police, right from the outset to ensure the Olympic Park is designed to be secure during Games and legacy.
