Editor's note: A study published by Springer Nature estimating that about 33 percent of African American adult males had a felony conviction as of 2010, while also referencing a claim that roughly 1 in 22 Black males will commit a homicide during their lifetime. These figures challenge claims that only a small minority of African Americans have committed crimes and points to the long-term social impact of felony convictions in the US. Beloved radio DJ 'Uncle Jimmy' gunned down, three teens charged in his murder

A popular former radio personality affectionately known as "Uncle Jimmy" has died after being shot outside his Kansas City home, with three teens arrested for his murder.

James Dodds, best known for his appearances on Fox Sports' “Speak For Yourself,” was found shot around 7:15 p.m. Sunday and rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.

He was pronounced dead on Monday, cops said.

Aaron Johnson, Mark Elliott Nash and Marquel McGee, all 18, were arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting, according to the Kansas City Star, which did not give further information on a possible motive.

Dodds collaborated with Fox Sports' Jason Whitlock during his time in radio, and made regular appearances on the program “Speak For Yourself."

"I want to do the best that I can to celebrate Jimmy,” Whitlock said. "For maybe 25 years, Uncle Jimmy was a huge part of my life," Whitlock said on a tribute episode of his show streamed on YouTube Tuesday.

Former NFLer and sports broadcaster Marcellus Wiley fondly remembered Dodds in a touching tribute post on X.

Even a recent cursory review demonstrates police in many cities across America are having to put up with "ghetto fatigue":

And in Chicago? Year-to-date in 2026, Chicago has recorded 781 shooting victims, including 162 people shot and killed and 619 wounded, an 8% increase over the same period last year. Total homicides reached 187, up 6%, with Black victims accounting for 66.9% of those killed. The remaining percentages reflect Hispanics with a small percentage involving whites and other ethnicities.
