Estimates suggest Israel's construction project in Gaza...

Editor's note: ...could cost between about $50 billion and $75 billion when military operations, mobilization, and related expenses are included. With Gaza's population at roughly 2.2 million people, that works out to about $23,000 to $34,000 for every man, woman, and child living in Gaza. Put bluntly, the staggering amount of money being spent on bombs, missiles, and military operations could theoretically give every Palestinian tens of thousands of dollars to start a new life somewhere else. It is a tongue-in-cheek cynical calculation, but it highlights the extraordinary economics of Israel's construction project in Gaza. In construction terms though, bombing is a whole lot less expensive for the condominiums, hotels, office buildings, restaurants and cafes planned for Gaza.

The Cost and Firepower of Israel's Construction Project In Gaza

Since the fighting began on October 7, 2023 in Gaza, Israel has carried out one of the most intensive bombing campaigns in modern warfare against targets in the Gaza Strip. Israeli aircraft have conducted tens of thousands of airstrikes across a 365 square kilometer (141 square miles) area using a wide range of aerial munitions. Military analysts estimate that the campaign has involved the release of tens of thousands of tons of explosives. Early estimates placed the amount of explosives dropped at about 25,000 tons during the first weeks of the war, but later assessments suggested the total may have exceeded 70,000 tons as the campaign expanded. The strikes have relied heavily on conventional aerial bombs weighing 500 pounds, 1,000 pounds, and 2,000 pounds, many of them fitted with precision guidance kits and delivered by Israeli fighter aircraft such as F-15 and F-16 jets.

The scale of the bombing has required the use of very large quantities of munitions. Precision guided bombs used by modern air forces typically cost tens of thousands of dollars each depending on the guidance system and size. With tens of thousands of bombs reportedly used during the campaign, analysts estimate that the cost of aerial bombs alone likely runs into the billions of dollars. In addition to aerial bombs, Israel has expended large numbers of missiles, artillery shells, tank rounds, and interceptor missiles used by its air defense systems. The overall cost of maintaining aircraft operations, fuel, maintenance, and logistics adds significantly to the total cost of Israel's construction project being carried out by the Israeli military.

The financial cost of the war has become a major burden for Israel's economy. Government figures and financial estimates indicate that Israel spent roughly 112 billion shekels, or about 31 billion dollars, on military operations related to the Gaza and Lebanon conflicts during 2024 alone. Estimates from Israel's central bank suggested the total cost of the war reached about $53 billion dollars in 2025. Other analyses based on government spending data have placed the broader cost of the conflict even higher, with total war expenses since October 2023 reaching roughly $250 billion shekels, or about $76 billion dollars.

At the height of the conflict, economists estimated the war was costing Israel hundreds of millions of dollars per day when the expenses of active combat operations, reservist mobilization, weapons consumption, and military logistics were included. The economic impact has extended beyond direct military spending. The mobilization of hundreds of thousands of reservists and the disruption to businesses and tourism have reduced economic activity across the country.

The war has also produced massive physical destruction in the Gaza Strip. International organizations estimate that rebuilding Gaza after the conflict could cost more than 70 billion dollars due to the extensive damage to housing, infrastructure, and public facilities. Together, the scale of the bombing campaign, the enormous consumption of military munitions, and the tens of billions of dollars spent by Israel illustrate the extraordinary financial and military scale of the Gaza construction project to permanently kill the two-state solution.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu announced that the IDF "dropped 153 tonnes of bombs on Gaza" following an alleged Hamas attack that killed two Israeli soldiers in Rafah. Hamas was organized and financed originally by Israel interests from the very beginning to prevent a two-state solution then converted Hamas to a terrorist organization to annihilate them. Sort of demonstrates how the leadership of Hamas driven by their fanatical Islamic faith caused them to drive themselves off the proverbial cliff:
