During the subsequent visit of Herman Gmeiner and Helmut Kutin, SOS-Kinderdorf International's representative of for Asia at that time, to Beijing, a collaboration agreement was signed with the Ministry of Civil Affairs, and the foundation of the first SOS Children's Villages in Tainjin and Yantai was laid. In 1985 the national SOS Children's Village Association was founded and two years later the two SOS Children's Villages Tianjin and Yantai were officially opened. In 1991 China signed the UNO Convention on the Rights of Children. Subsequently the Chinese government launched several programs to improve the living conditions of children. This included their support given during the realization of additional SOS Children's Village facilities, particularly in the remote and/or underdeveloped regions of the country. In 1992 the first SOS Youth Facilities came into being and these were gradually established in all SOS Children's Villages.

The SOS Hermann Gmeiner School in Yantai, which was opened in 1993, has over 3,000 pupils and thus is the biggest school built by SOS Children's Villages worldwide. It enjoys the status of a model school and belongs to the best schools of the country. The SOS Vocational Training Centre in Qiqihar became operational in October 1996. Here 500 students attend practical courses, which prepare them for their professional life. A special event was the opening of the SOS Children's Village Lhasa in 2001, the first SOS Children's Village in the autonomous region of Tibet. At the time over 3,000 orphans were registered in Tibet. According to official sources the project was regarded as an important step towards a future orientated accommodation of children without parents. At present there are ten SOS Children's Villages, nine SOS Youth Facilities, nine SOS Kindergartens, one SOS Hermann Gmeiner School, two Social Centers, and three SOS Vocational Training Centres in China. "Our Work in China SOS Children provides orphaned children in China with a new mother, a family and a home where they can stay until they are ready for independent life (each family house can give a home to up to 12 children). We began our work in the country in 1986. We currently care for more than 1,000 children at our ten purpose-built SOS Children's Villages, and a further 292 teenagers at our nine SOS Youth Homes, where young adults live while they complete their college studies or vocational training, and where they are taught the life skills needed for independent living. We also run SOS Schools, Vocational Training Centres and Family Strengthening Programmes. Family Strengthening Programmes aim to prevent child abandonment and to keep vulnerable families together by providing childcare, counselling, vocational training and medical support. In total, through all of our Villages, Schools, Training Centres and Family Strengthening Programmes we are providing support to over 8,200 people in China." 

"Beijing: Chinese police have busted two huge child trafficking rings that spanned 10 provinces, arresting more than 600 suspects and rescuing 178 children, the government said today. Child abductions and trafficking are rife in China, despite repeated police crackdowns -- a problem that many experts blame on the nation's strict "one-child" policy and lax regulations on adoption [forced on China’s leaders by Maurice Strong] The public security ministry said in a statement that police in the southwestern province of Sichuan had chanced on clues that a child trafficking gang was operating there when dealing with a traffic accident in May. [Evidence of use of EComms to facilitate pedophile trade] Then in August, police in the southeastern province of Fujian discovered the existence of another gang involved in widespread child trafficking. After a long period of evidence-gathering, more than 5,000 police officers from 10 different provinces across China launched a joint offensive on November 30, arresting 608 suspects. They rescued 178 children, who have now been placed in welfare agencies, in what the statement called "the biggest victory yet for anti-trafficking" operations. It did not say how old the children were, or whether they had been reunited with their parents.

Lax adoption rules for childless couples in China have led to a thriving underground market for kidnapping, buying and selling children. Many academics also blame the problem on the nation's strict "one-child" policy, which has put a premium on baby boys, as many families want a male heir. As such, some parents who are unable to have a son or want a second child opt to buy one, and baby girls are also sometimes sold on to traffickers. Police said in July they had freed 89 children in a crackdown on trafficking launched this year, arresting 369 people in the operation. In November, police in the eastern province of Shandong also broke up a human trafficking gang that bought babies from poor families and sold them on for as much as USD 8,000. And in 2007, in a scandal that shocked the nation, authorities found that thousands of people had been forced into slave labour in brickyards and mines across the nation."

Please get your fellow privy councilor Maurice Strong back to Canada to face justice, for the which we suggest you resurrect and reinvigorate your fellow citizens' rights to a pre trial Grand Jury.
