Wake Up Canada! - China-Canada Criminal Corporate Collusion - FIPPA & Bill C-45 - Stephen Harper: Thoroughly Corrupted

Hello, my fellow Canadians.

I hope that you will forgive me for unashamedly sending this to you all, but my heart has been heavy with worry and despair over some recent developments in our country, and I have felt an incredible urge to cry out to you all, because I find that, with only days to go before Canada becomes a de facto colony of China, far too few Canadians know what is going on or what the broader implications are. I may be powerless on my own in the face of the ruthless powers intent on destroying this country for private profit, but I will not let it be said of me, a generation from now, "He did nothing to stop it. He saw what was coming, understood what it meant for Canada, and yet stood aside and allowed it to happen, unchallenged."

Please, if you feel so inclined, share this article with others who you think need to know what is happening in this country. I hereby grant permission to anyone to republish this article anywhere they like.

Thank you,
Jordan

#WakeUpCanada!

by Jordan Bober

I seldom change my Facebook profile photo – but a week ago I was moved, for the first time in my life, to transform my online identity into a political statement. Typing the words “Wake Up Canada” into Google, I immediately found the perfect visual expression for what I was feeling. It was a picture of an old button from a 1978 Elvis Costello tour called, conveniently, "Wake Up Canada!". The button features Elvis Costello pointing sternly at the viewer, his index finger stiffly extended as though about to prod a truant teenager out of his Monday afternoon sleep-in.

It was perfect.

What prompted this act of rebellion on my part? An overwhelming feeling that Canadians need to WAKE UP to what is happening to their country (and indeed, the world as a whole) more urgently now than ever before. This feeling was prompted by a conversation I had the night before about the outrageous Canada-China Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Act (FIPPA) and Bill C-45, the equally outrageous new omnibus bill being tabled in Parliament at this very moment. During the conversation, a friend exclaimed, "We need to start a Wake Up Canada movement!". The idea stuck in my head.

If you haven't heard about FIPPA yet, please begin the waking up process by informing yourself about it here. Thank goodness for Elizabeth May, Canada's hardest-working MP, for being at least one MP that we can count on to stand up for Canadians and our democratic institutions! In a nutshell, FIPPA is the most significant international trade deal Canada has entered into since NAFTA. It was signed by Prime Minister Stephen Harper in secret on September 9th, quietly tabled in Parliament without so much as a press release or technical briefing on September 26th, and is set to be automatically ratified without any debate whatsoever in Parliament on October 31st, binding Canada to its objectionable terms for 31 years. Faced with the prospect that such a significant and lopsided undertaking could be foisted on Canadians without so much as a word about it in Parliament, Elizabeth May petitioned the Speaker for an emergency debate on October 2nd. Her request was denied, cited as “not meeting the tests of an emergency”. On October 24th, Elizabeth May finally received a technical briefing on FIPPA from the Minister of International Trade, nearly a month after first requesting it, and was granted a mere 60 seconds to relay what she learned to Parliament.

Apparently, a bilateral trade deal containing dangerous concessions of our sovereignty vis-à-vis the world’s second largest economy is not a matter for discussion or debate among our elected representatives.

Just as disturbing as the blatantly undemocratic way in which a generation of Canadians is being bound by FIPPA are the terms of the treaty, which any Canadian should find quite shocking. Not only does the agreement grant Chinese companies (many of which are creatures of the totalitarian regime itself) rights on our soil equal to those of Canadian companies, but in a reflection of the Chinese and Harper governments’ obsession with secrecy, it gives Chinese companies the right to covertly sue any level of government at secret tribunals for any laws or regulations that are passed, including environmental protection laws, that could reduce Chinese companies' expectations of future profits. Furthermore, the agreement completely cedes Canada’s right to manage its own natural resources by prohibiting governments from limiting access to our resources to Chinese companies without at the same time limiting access in equal measure to Canadian firms.

Bill C-45, in case you haven’t yet heard of it, is another (ominous) omnibus budget bill filled with 443 pages (even bigger than the last one!) of decrees from the Harper government, including, such as we have come to expect from this government which has shown such great disdain for our democratic and parliamentary traditions, a great many items that really have nothing to do with the budget at all. Distressingly, this one contains yet another wave of attacks on environmental protection in this great land of ours, including a major gutting of the Navigable Waters Act, one of the last bits of environmental protection left in this country. The bill also specifically exempts pipeline projects from the Navigable Waters Act, in a clear nod to Harper’s oil buddies seeking to build pipelines carrying tar sands bitumen across British Columbia watersheds to tankers that will then transport it down along the treacherous, pristine BC coastline.

All Canadians need to wake up to the fact that we are sliding into a de facto dictatorship with disastrous intentions. Our democratic institutions have ceased to function, and all power now resides in a man who, for whatever reason, does not have the best interests of Canada, Canadians or the world in which we live at heart. It is quite baffling, really. The Stephen Harper that we have on record from his days as an opposition MP and leader of the National Citizens Coalition would have been outraged over the actions that his own government is taking today. Clearly, Stephen Harper the Prime Minister has been thoroughly corrupted, whether by extortion, bribery, or simply by power itself.

We need to wake up and smell the pungent, day-old coffee of history repeating itself. There are many examples to draw from.

Canadians may think our country immune to the kinds of dictatorships that have taken hold in other countries throughout history; so did the Germans of the Weimar Republic, before Adolf Hitler came to power. Following WWI, Germany’s constitution was designed to be the most solidly democratic of its day, and yet it took only one emergency decree following the staged burning of the Reichstag to sweep democracy aside. By comparison, Canada’s constitution does not contain nearly the same democratic guarantees that Germany’s did prior to Hitler, but up until now the power and actions of our elected politicians have been constrained by a long-standing democratic and parliamentary tradition, guarded by Canadians themselves. Since becoming this country’s Prime Minister in 2006, and especially since winning a majority government in 2011, Stephen Harper has chosen not to observe our democratic traditions, and has met pitifully little resistance from a sleeping Canadian populace. The proverbial goalie has left the net.

Canadians often ask the questions, “How is it possible that the German people were not aware of the atrocities being committed by Hitler? How could they allow him to destroy their country? Were they sleeping?”

Now, most Canadians need only look inside themselves for these answers.

If the comparison between Canada under Stephen Harper and Germany under Hitler seems a bit exaggerated to you, perhaps you will scent an even stronger and more ironic whiff of history repeating itself, coming from China itself.

Many readers will be vaguely familiar, thanks to their high school history lessons, with the Boxer Rebellion in China between 1898 and 1901, when the Chinese people decided they had had enough of creeping European imperialism over the previous half-century, rose up against the foreigners, and were ultimately put back in their place by a coalition of eight European armies.

What is interesting to note for Canadians today is just what was taking place in China in the period prior to the Boxer Rebellion. The following descriptions have been taken from Wikipedia:

The uprising took place in response to foreign "spheres of influence" in China, with grievances ranging from opium traders, political invasion, economic manipulation, to missionary evangelism. In China, popular sentiment remained resistant to foreign influences, and anger rose over the "unequal treaties", which the weak Qing state could not resist. [...]
By 1900, the great powers had already been chipping away at Chinese sovereignty for sixty years. They had forced China to import opium, thus leading to widespread addiction, defeated China in several wars, asserted a right to promote Christianity and imposed unequal treaties under which foreigners and foreign companies in China were accorded special privileges, extraterritorial rights and immunities from Chinese law [emphasis added], causing resentment and xenophobic reactions among the Chinese. France, Japan, Russia, and Germany carved out spheres of influence, so that by 1900 it appeared that China would likely be dismembered, with foreign powers each ruling a part of the country. Thus, by 1900, the Qing dynasty, which had ruled China for more than two centuries, was crumbling and Chinese culture was under assault by powerful and unfamiliar religions and secular cultures.
It’s quite shocking to see the wheel come full circle, and yet I believe that here we are, on the cusp of an era when Canada, coveted for its natural resources, will be in the exact same position that China occupied in the late 1800s. Already Canada is at the centre of a mad dash for energy and other resources, with China the most aggressive and powerful dasher. Right now, Chinese state-owned oil companies control a huge chunk of the Athabasca Tar Sands and are poised to snap up even more with the $15.1 billion bid to take over Alberta energy giant Nexen. When FIPPA comes into force on Halloween, China’s domination over our country and its natural resources will be cemented with special privileges, extraterritorial rights and immunities from Canadian law. Sound familiar?

If Canadians do not see the ravenous hunger in the eyes of their enormous neighbour across the Pacific as it looks towards Canada, then it is time to wipe the sleep out of their own.

The direction in which Canada is so rapidly heading has become intolerable. If you do not yet feel the intolerability of this situation, you may be sleeping. Please, for the sake this country, our and our children’s future, wake up, lest the stage be set for an equally ill-fated Canadian Boxer Rebellion in a few years from now.

Please, #WakeUpCanada!

Here’s how you can take action right now:

Get out on the streets and help wake up other Canadians to what is happening. In Vancouver, join the October 28th rally starting at noon at Granville and Broadway.

Send letters to your MP and to Stephen Harper (send old-fashioned snail mail letters to really make a point!).

Damn polite dinner table conversation in this country! This needs to be spoken about by everyone, or we will never take our country back!

Prepare for the very realistic possibility that our federal government can no longer be counted upon to serve any of our interests. Start rebuilding civil society and local resilience, beginning with an act as simple as getting to know your neighbours. Get involved in groups seeking to find and implement solutions to the crises that our governments will not acknowledge. We will need each other more than ever before.

Well, the Law of Equity was changed in the early eighties to read that unless a statute states it is being enacted under Canadian Law, the default is that it is being enacted under British Law. The problem with that? British Law has been subverted to Papal EU Law for quite a while now. Look at the number of Catholics in gov't - nothing more than Praemunire and Requirimiento. Why the deal with China to benefit China more? China is just a new version of the Jesuit reductions of Paraguay.

... if it was actually Chinese that were buying up Canada for chinafication by their standards on labour & pollution, that would be one thing

~ as Chinese slaves don't actually have wealth, not having enough to be called a living wage even remotely existing in their present or future

= this latest round of Globalization by The Harper Conservative Government is really about the same GLOBALZIONism that bought up the Chinese Government and is now buying up Canadian resources with proceeds of China slavery

  1. Yes Elvis is King. But I hope you are not holding your breath waiting for St. Elizabeth of May to save the day. The Member of Parliament for Saanich–Gulf Islands has long and sorted history. She emigrates from the US with her family ending up in Cape Breton where the family buys and manages a motel, then becomes head of the Sierra Club Club Canada where she blows a lot of steam on fighting for the clen up of the Sydney tar ponds, la-di-da. Then she moves to BC and here we are present day, "the hardest working MP in Canada" ha! Listen Buba maybe you don't know the way the system works. The people that really run the show control both sides--choose a side--they have it covered. This way they can never lose. The so-called opposition is always controlled, see? Elizabeth May counts Bill Clinton as a good family friend. He also fawns over her.
    Do the math.
