The Independent 2012-07-04: The email – an account of a conversation between the chief executive of Barclays, Bob Diamond, and the Deputy Governor of the Bank of England, Paul Tucker – appears to show Barclays was under the impression that manipulating rates was being sanctioned at the highest level. The email was released by Barclays ahead of today's high-profile showdown between Mr Diamond and MPs on the Treasury Select Committee. Mr Diamond is certain to be asked what advice he received from the Bank of England on the reporting of Barclays' Libor rates [by data compiler Thomson Reuters]. “

The aims of the network include:- Offering support to anyone dealing with issues relating to sexual orientation (e.g. either personally or with friends and family); Offering help with regards career issues (e.g., buddying and mentoring [and sharing insider tips re Libor rate rigging); Reflecting the diversity of our organisation which may help and support existing staff or staff joining or considering joining the Bank. In May 2008 the Bank became a member of the Stonewall Diversity Champions Programme [sponsored by Obama White House’s Valerie Jarrett and its same sex ‘Women and Girls’ service]. This is Britain’s good practice forum for sexual orientation issues in the workplace.”

“We’re proud to let you know that Thomson Reuters has joined Google, Pixar, Apple, PwC, Ernst & Young, President Barack Obama, Lady GaGa and more to create its own video for the It Gets Better Project—an initiative that supports and gives hope to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth and lets them know that things do get better. Read more about the It Gets Better Project. 07 SEP 2011 Thomson Reuters The Thomson Reuters video opens with an introduction by our CEO, Tom Glocer, who has long been a supporter of LGBT issues, saying “We want you to make it through what may be a rough period in your life. And I can tell you honestly, from my heart, it only gets better.” We then hear from many of our inspirational colleagues all over the world who tell us how things got better for them and how things can get better for you. Check out our video below: The It Gets Better Project was started in September 2010 by syndicated columnist and author Dan Savage. He and his partner Terry created a YouTube video to inspire hope for young people facing harassment in response to a number of students taking their own lives after being bullied in school. They wanted to create a personal way for supporters everywhere to tell lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth that, yes, it does indeed get better. One year later, the It Gets Better Project (TM) has become a worldwide movement, inspiring over 25,000 user-created videos viewed over 40 million times.”

This on Independence Day, but more to follow.
