AF447: Efforts Ramp Up Again To Recover Airbus A330's Recorders Posted by Robert Wall at 4/26/2011 7:11 AM CDT The newest search phase has begun to pinpoint and recover the cockpit voice and flight data recorders for Air France flight 447, the Airbus A330 that crashed into the Atlantic on a flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris on June 1, 2009. The French air accident investigation office, the BEA, reports that a Remora 6000 unmanned, underwater vehicle has already completed its first dive now that the Ile de Sein vessel is on station in the area where investigators confirmed they have located wreckage of the aircraft. The vessel is carrying 68 persons, including investigators, Airbus experts, and judicial authorities to secure any evidence recovered from the sea bed around 4,000 meters below the ocean surface. Two working groups are on scene, one looking at photos taken in the prior search phase of wreckage, with a particular focus on the aft section of the aircraft where the so called black boxes should be located. The other is looking at how to recover key elements of the aircraft, including the black boxes and also other elements that could yield important clues, such as computer chips associated with avionics and the CF6 engines's full-authority digital engine control. “Top lawyer found dead after cocaine binge in five-star London hotel By SAM GREENHILL UPDATED: 14:53 GMT, 16 December 2010 A top lawyer was found dead in an exclusive hotel after bingeing on cocaine, an inquest heard yesterday. Staff at the Sheraton Park Tower Hotel in London were forced to break down the door of Andrew Muriel’s room. They found the 57-year-old father of four lying naked on the floor with white powder and a rolled-up bank note nearby. He may have lain dead for three days. [Compare crime scene with that of Gareth Williams] Mr Muriel, one of the world’s leading aviation finance lawyers, was staying at the hotel on business. Toxicology reports showed he had three times the amount of cocaine in his system that a ‘recreational’ user would usually have. He checked into the Knightsbridge hotel, which charges up to £400 a night, on September 27 this year. Staff became concerned over the next three days when they saw no movement from him and he had not picked up the newspaper from outside his door. The London-born lawyer worked for DLA Piper, the same firm that employs Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg’s wife, Miriam Gonzalez, but had moved to the company’s Moscow office three years ago and lived in the Russian capital with his wife. Pathologist Dr Peter Wilkins told the hearing: ‘The toxicology reports found the presence of the metabolite of cocaine at 1.77 milligrammes per litre of blood. The typical recreational level is 0.61mlg. This is significantly higher.’ There was also alcohol in Mr Muriel’s blood, but it was not possible to estimate how much he had drunk. Dr Knapman recorded a verdict of death by non-dependent drug misuse caused by alcohol and cocaine toxicity with an enlarged heart and inflammation of the liver. He said: ‘The cocaine I am sure had an effect upon his heart and ultimately, unfortunately, caused his death. This is a terrible tragedy.’ Mr Muriel’s Danish wife, Iben, and one of his sons attended the inquest at Westminster Coroner’s Court but were too upset to comment.”

SFO, BAE Help Educate Millions Of Kids Thursday, March 15, 2012 At 2:28PM The U.K.'s Serious Fraud Office said today that BAE Systems will pay nearly £30 million to fund educational projects in Tanzania. The payment is part of BAE's 2010 global settlement of bribery charges. In that settlement, BAE paid the U.S. DOJ a $400 million criminal fine. In the U.K., the fine was just £500,000. But BAE also agreed with the SFO to fund social projects in Tanzania. BAE admitted that it failed to keep adequate accounting records for a contract to supply an air traffic control system to Tanzania's government. The £30 million will be used to buy textbooks for all 16,000 primary schools in the country, the SFO said, benefiting more than eight million children. Teaching guides and syllabi will be provided to 175,000 primary school teachers. Up to £5 million will be spent to buy desks for schools in Tanzania's poorest districts. The SFO said the U.K. has been helping BAE and the government of Tanzania allocate the money and decide how it will be delivered and monitored. SFO director Richard Alderman said: 'This agreement is a first for the SFO which piloted it through the U.K. legal system. It provides a satisfactory outcome for all concerned but most of all for the Tanzanian people and I am personally delighted that SFO staff were able to achieve this.'”

"Jamhuri ya Muungano wa Tanzania" (The United Republic of Tanzania) is currently home to four SOS Children’s Villages [allegedly sponsored by DLA Piper using the HSBC trademark as a front for a global network of pedophile entrapment centers]. The organisation has been active in Tanzania since the former president of Zanzibar, Ali Hassan Mwinyi, approached Hermann Gmeiner in 1984, requesting that an SOS Children’s Village should be built in his country. In 1991, the first children were able to move into their newly built homes. At present there are three SOS Children's Villages, two SOS Youth Facilities, three SOS Kindergartens, two SOS Hermann Gmeiner Schools, four SOS Social Centres and two SOS Medical Centres in Tanzania.”

“WASHINGTON (AP) - Lockheed Martin Corp. will pay $4 million to settle federal charges that it took unauthorized steps to sell missiles overseas and revealed classified information, said an agreement released Friday. The largest U.S. defence contractor did not secure proper clearance from the U.S. State Department while negotiating the sale of 460 Hellfire anti-tank missiles with United Arab Emirates during 2003 and 2004, said documents filed in the case. The State Department also alleged Lockheed revealed classified information to a U.A.E. air force officer during the talks. The proposed sale was never completed. Lockheed later disclosed one of its employees mistakenly gave classified material to an unnamed NATO ally about the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile that had not been approved for release. The State Department said the cases violated the Arms Control Export Act and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations. The agency began an investigation in 2004 after Lockheed voluntarily notified it of the Hellfire missile case. Under the settlement, Lockheed will pay $3 million - with the extra $1 million suspended if it follows terms of the agreement - which include appointing a special compliance officer to make sure the company abides by laws governing international weapons sales. Lockheed spokesman Tom Jurkowsky said Friday the company neither admits nor denies the violations but any release of classified information or violation of arm sales laws was not intentional. "The personnel mistakenly assumed that because the U.A.E. already had Hellfire missiles that no further approval was needed," he said.”
